No, you do not need a referral prior to seeing a chiropractor. Chiropractors are legislated as primary contact health professionals in every province in Canada. This means that patients can consult them directly without the need for referral from their medical doctor. However, chiropractors often work closely with medical doctors, many of whom refer to chiropractors when they believe chiropractic treatment will help alleviate a patient’s condition. Similarly, chiropractors frequently refer to medical doctors when necessary.
Do I need X-Rays?
X-rays can play an important role in diagnosis and are taken only when a need has been determined after taking a patient’s case history and conducting a physical examination. If your practitioner determines that x-rays are necessary, you will be referred to your MD as needed.
What Should I Bring To My Appointment?
Please bring all the completed intake forms as well as any x-ray, MRI, CT scan or ultrasound reports related to your complaint. In addition, please bring shorts or a loose fitting T-shirt depending on the area of your chief complaint.
Is Chiropractic Covered By Health Insurance?
Chiropractic care is covered extensively by third party payers. These include the federal public service, worker’s compensation boards, the automobile insurance industry, private health care insurers, employee benefit plans, the RCMP, and Veteran’s Affairs Canada. Please consult your extended health care plan as coverage varies with each provider.For MSP beneficiaries receiving premium assistance, MSP contributes $23 per visit for a combined annual limit of 10 visits each calendar year for the following services: acupuncture, chiropractic, massage therapy, naturopathy, physical therapy and non-surgical podiatry.
Do You Accept ICBC Claims?
The doctors at Cloverdale Chiropractic participate in the ICBC/British Columbia Chiropractic treatment program. If you have a valid claim number and you haven’t seen another chiropractor for injuries related to that claim, all chiropractic fees are covered and pre-approved.
Do You Accept WorkSafe BC Claims?
Yes, WorksafeBC pays the chiropractor directly. All you need to do is make a WorkSafeBC claim with your employer and provide your claim number to your chiropractor. After that, all chiropractic fees are covered and you’re pre-approved up to 8 weeks.
